New Year's Bento Box!

Happy Holidays from Japanese Grandma's Cafe!

We are excited to offer a traditional Japanese New Year's Bento Box containing 15 different dishes which each hold a special meaning.

Boxes are $30 each and are portioned for a 1 person meal or 2 person appetizer. Boxes must be pre-ordered by December 29th. Pick up is available on the 30th and 31st by 2pm. Please call or text at 808-634-0101 or e-mail at info@blu-umi.com.

The box includes:

KUROMAME
Sweet black soybeans, which are eaten for good health and long life in the New Year.
KURIKINTON
Golden chestnut mash, which symbolizes economic fortune and wealth.
NISHIME
Simmered Japanese vegetables, which symbolize wishes for the coming year.
DATEMAKI
Sweet rolled omelet, which symbolize education and culture.
TAZUKURI
Seasoned sardines, which symbolize a bountiful harvest.
KABU SUNOMONO WITH IKURA
Pickled turnips with salmon roe, which represent fertility.
HOSHOMAKI WITH SHRIMP, EGG, AND DAIKON
Shrimp, egg, and raddish rolled to look like traditional Japanese washi paper.
NAMASU
Pickled vegetables in white and orange which are colors that represent a good omen.
KANISHINJO
Steamed crab cake, which is commonly eaten during celebrations.
EBI
Boiled shrimp, which symbolizes longevity.
TORI GOBO
Burdock root wrapped in chicken and simmered to represent an abundant harvest.
NISHIKI TAMAGO
Sweet egg cake in yellow and white.
BURI TERIYAKI
Teriyaki yellowtail, which is a classic Japanese dish.
KAMABOKO
Fish cake in the shape of a paddle used in hagoita, a traditional Japanese game.
KAZUNOKO
Herring roe, which symbolizes a wish to be gifted with many children.
